Ribbon
Ladies
These intricate
and delightful artworks first appeared around 1850 and are enjoying
a renewed popularity among handcraft revivalists. “Ribbon Ladies”
were traditionally mounted on black velvet and framed, and these lovely
portraits graced many a genteel turn-of-the-century parlor and hallway.
As a craft,
they demanded skill and creativity, and required long hours of painstaking
detail. Often, the fabrics used had some meaning to the creator, like
a piece of christening ribbon, or silk from a wedding gown. Today they
are extremely rare, commanding high prices at auctions and estate sales,
if they ever show up.
Heart of
Hearts can create an original Ribbon Lady artwork for you, bringing
this timeless art to your home. We stitch every delicate piece of lace
and ribbon by hand into an exquisite Ribbon Lady that will make you
the envy of your friends. We will individually select each piece of
silk, or use your own fabrics to create your original family heirloom.
Beautifully framed, and traditionally mounted on velvet, your Ribbon
Ladies will be the envy of your friends!
